The Department of Energy brought much-needed smiles to the faces of South Africa’s motorists earlier this week when they confirmed decreases in both the petrol and diesel prices for April.

It represents the second consecutive month where prices are set to drop after four straight months of increases.

The Department of Energy announced different prices decreases for Inland and Coastal regions.

The new April 2025 petrol and diesel prices (Inland and Coastal):

Prices at the coast became comparatively cheaper than the cost inland.

But what’s the difference in terms of filling the tank (from empty) of a 80 litre Toyota Hilux in Johannesburg and Cape Town?

That means it’s R66.40 cheaper to fill a Toyota Hilux with 95 unleaded or 0.05% diesel in Cape Town compared to Johannesburg.

FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:

1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices

2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products
