Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has praised his former team following Amakhosi’s 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.
Goals from Gaston Sirino and Yusuf Maart ended Chiefs’ 10-year trophy drought. Khanye, who had predicted that Amakhosi would lose, faced criticism from Kaizer Chiefs fans on Friday.
The 38-year-old analyst has been critical of his former club for years, often questioning their decisions regarding coaching hires.
“You can’t win ugly, especially in three finals, and say your game plan works; it didn’t work,” he stated. “Chiefs didn’t play well, but they were energetic and showed character. I think this game meant a lot to the Kaizer Chiefs players. They didn’t play good football, but what won them the game was their character.”

Khanye acknowledged the contributions from the coaching staff: “I need to give credit to Nabi for reading the game and bringing in Mdu Shabalala. Well done to the boy; this is what we want to see from him. He came in and changed the complexion of the game by running behind the Orlando Pirates defense.”
Although Khanye praised Kaizer Chiefs for their win, he felt Nasreddine Nabi was not the perfect coach to lead the club going forward.
Do you think Khanye is a Amakhosi hater or harsh critic?
