Pick n Pay joins Springboks party with shady Ireland post

Pick n Pay has joined its competitor – Checkers – in backing the Springboks, and roasting Ireland in a shady social media post.

The retailer’s jab comes as the rugby rivals are set to clash on Saturday, 22 November at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

PICK N PAY SHADES IRELAND

Like Checkers has done this week, Pick n Pay showed its support to the Springboks ahead of their test match against Ireland.

The retailer took notes from its competitor by poking fun at South Africa’s rival – Ireland.

In a video post, the corporation shared a video clip of several Irish dancers performing traditional dances. Hilariously, the soundtrack was changed to South Africa’s unofficial anthem – Sister Bethina.

“Ireland takes on the Springboks – what’s your score prediction?”, the caption asked its followers.

BACKING THE SPRINGBOKS

Earlier this year, SA Rugby announced that Pick n Pay had signed a four-year contract as a Tier 1 sponsor. The sponsor’s logo is featured on all Springboks match-day jerseys and on the front of all training apparel.

The retailer replaces MTN, which previously sponsored the Boks from 2017 up until last year.

The brand’s name features on the back of the jersey in gold above the position number and player name. According to reports, the significant move is expected to cost the supermarket group around R70 million per year.
