Orlando Pirates are through to the group stage of the CAF Champions League following their 5-0 aggregate win over African Stars on Friday.
ORLANDO PIRATES QUALIFY FOR CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE
The Buccaneers went into this encounter at Orlando Amstel Arena with a slight advantage having won 1-0 away from home.
And on the day, they showed no mercy as they attacked African Stars from the word go.
The home side opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Thapelo Mokobodi after a great combination between Thalente Mbatha and Simphiwe Masilela.
Masilela was at it again on the stroke of half-time as he set up Evidence Makgopa for Pirates’ second goal of the match.
At this stage, the game was way beyond African Stars’ reach simply because they needed at least three goals to advance.
In the second half, Pirates continued where they had left off in the first, netting twice to ensure they place in the group stage is safe.
Makgopa set up Mpho Padime for his first Pirates’ goal and the team’s third on the night before the Bafana Bafana international completed his brace with 10 minutes to go.
In other news, Pirates’ arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 3-2 penalty shout-out loss to Red Arrows of Zambia.
