More South African families are choosing online school than ever, and the question most of them ask first isn’t about technology.
It’s whether the school is any good – and whether it’s real.
Public reviews offer one of the clearest answers available.
On Hellopeter, Teneo Online School holds the highest overall AI score in the education and training category: 4.4 out of 5, against a category average of 3.6, based on reviews published between September 2025 and September 2026.
How does Teneo Online School rate on Hellopeter?
Teneo Online School is rated best in class on three measures and above the category average on all five that Hellopeter rates:
The fees and refunds gap is the most striking. Across the category the average sits at 1.8, which tells its own story about how parents experience billing elsewhere.
What do parents actually say?
Teaching and academic support draw the most praise. Reviewers repeatedly name individual teachers for their patience, encouragement and free extra lessons, and describe Grade Heads and Phase Heads stepping in during exam periods.
A consistent theme is recovery. Parents describe online school as a transformative alternative to mainstream schooling, reporting restored confidence, measurable academic improvement, and relief from bullying and long daily commutes. Learners recovering from bullying, grief or illness say they felt genuinely seen and supported.
Families also mention the choice of live, hybrid and recorded lessons, recorded lessons for revision, robotics and coding, and clear exam scopes.
Is online school a good option for children who have been bullied?
For many families, yes. Relief from bullying is one of the most common themes in Teneo’s reviews. Parents whose children left mainstream schools after bullying – or during recovery from illness or grief – describe the online environment as safe and supportive, and say their child’s confidence returned.
Notably, reviewers credit individual teachers and phase heads as much as the online format itself. The format removes the environment; the people make the difference.
Is Teneo Online School accredited?
Yes. Teneo Online School is officially listed as an online school approved by both the IEB and SACAI, under their concession for Umalusi certification, which allows its learners to write the National Senior Certificate.
Both assessment bodies are accredited by the Umalusi Council. Learners who meet the requirements receive the same National Senior Certificate awarded to successful matriculants across the country. Full details are on the school’s accreditation page.
What were the 2025 matric results?
In the 2025 NSC examinations, 892 Teneo Online School learners matriculated with an 80% overall pass rate.

How do parents check whether an online school is accredited?
This is the question worth asking of any online school, whatever its reviews.
Ask which assessment body your child will write the NSC through, and for the school’s registration number. A legitimate school will give you both without hesitation.
Verify it independently. SACAI publishes a list of its registered NSC providers on its website and confirms registrations by email.
Ask where final NSC examinations will be written. Umalusi requires them to be taken in person at a registered examination centre. A school that suggests otherwise is a red flag.
Who is online school best suited to?
Based on the experiences families describe, online schooling tends to suit:
“Great teaching changes what a child believes is possible”
Taryn Jankes, Chief Marketing Officer at Teneo Online School, said: “What comes through most in these reviews is the relationship between our teachers and our learners, families telling us their child was seen, supported, and got their confidence back. That’s the heart of what we do, and it’s what we’re proudest of. Great teaching changes what a child believes is possible for themselves, and delivering that, every day, for every learner, is what we set out to do.”
