A final call for applications for the 2026 Future is Bright Bursary Programme has been made by the Hollywood Foundation.
The bursary programme, which has been running since 2017, has grown from humble beginnings to positively impacting thousands of people.
Investing in South Africa’s Youth Through Education
“The Foundation is committed to empowering South Africa’s youth through education and skills development. Through its My Education pillar, the Hollywood Foundation provides financial assistance and holistic support to deserving students. This year alone, more than 500 students will be funded and over 100 students are expected to graduate,” explained Vuyisile Ngobese, Hollywood Foundation’s marketing manager.
Fields of Study Covered by the Programme
The bursary programme supports students pursuing studies in several high-demand fields and aims to equip young South Africans with the skills and qualifications needed to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economy.

“By continually investing in education, the Hollywood Foundation continues to create opportunities for talented young people to achieve their dreams and hopefully uplift their communities,” Ngobese said.
From the Rugby Field to Supply Chain Studies: Phepsi Buthelezi’s Story
One of the beneficiaries is Hollywoodbets Sharks star, Phendulani “Phepsi” Buthelezi. He is currently studying for BCOM in International Supply Chain Management through IMM Graduate School.
He said: “What inspired me to go for this qualification is my passion for transport. Growing up my dad had a construction company, so I spent a lot of time on the road building roads. I initially wanted to be a civil engineer, but as I got older I developed a serious interest for the supply chain in general and how I would love to be involved in the supply chain and logistics side. I think that plays an important role in our country and economy at the moment. That’s where I see my life after rugby.”
How the Programme Has Changed Past Beneficiaries’ Paths
Past beneficiaries have highlighted how the programme has eased financial pressures, enabled them to focus on their academic goals, and given them renewed hope for a brighter future.
From University to BET Software: Mbali Dube’s Journey
Mbali Dube, 23, is a shining example of how the programme, one of the Foundation’s My Education initiatives, has proven inspirational. Dube, who has an interest in AI (artificial intelligence), has now joined BET Software’s graduate programme and has her sights set on growing within the organisation.
Dube, of Constantia Kloof, west of Johannesburg, was able to complete her Bachelor of Information Technology and Information Systems degree from the University of Pretoria in 2025, thanks to the programme.
