The eye-watering price of a private Table Mountain cable car ride

Ever wondered what it would cost to have a Table Mountain cable car all to yourself?

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) offers an exclusive private service for visitors looking for a more special way to experience one of Cape Town’s biggest attractions.

The package is available to local and international visitors and can accommodate private groups, special occasions, weddings and functions.

SO, how much does a private Table Mountain cable car cost?

The private experience starts with visitors being fast-tracked past the usual queues.

A member of the Cableway team personally escorts the group to its private cable car, which is reserved exclusively for their return journey.

Guests can then enjoy the ride up the mountain, taking in the panoramic views along the way.

The service is designed to offer an additional level of privacy and social distancing, making it an option for private groups and special events.

According to the Cableway Company, the exclusive-use cable car package costs an eye-watering R78 000.

This price is valid from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 and covers a private cable car for up to 60 visitors.

The service will not be available during TMACC’s busy season from 16 December 2026 to 7 January 2027, however.

Private cable car tickets can be purchased online through Webtickets.

How much do normal Table Mountain cable car tickets cost?

For comparison, standard daily tickets are considerably cheaper than hiring a private cable car.

According to the Cableway’s listed prices, an adult return ticket costs R475, while a child return ticket (aged four to 17) costs R230. South African pensioners pay R130 for a return ticket.
