SOUTH AFRICA START WELL

Pitso Mosimane has enjoyed an ideal start. Under Mosimane, Bafana Bafana’s AFCON 2027 qualifiers began with two straight wins. A 2-1 victory over Guinea and the 5-0 bashing of Eritrea.

The 1996 champions top the group with six points, while Guinea lurk in second spot with three points. With Kenya to qualify as hosts, only the group winner will book a spot at Afcon 2027.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will make history from June 19 to July 17, 2027, as it is jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This 36th edition marks the tournament’s historic return to East Africa for the first time since 1976. The competition will maintain its competitive 24-team format, bringing the finest squads on the continent together for a month of elite football.

The qualification race is already intense across 12 groups, with the final lineup set to be decided by late March 2027.
