Former Kaizer Chiefs star Junior Khanye has criticised new signing Adolf Mtasingwa following the club’s MTN8 exit.
Amakhosi were knocked out of the competition after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
Chiefs have made six signings during the current transfer window, but only one of their recruits started against Arrows.
That player was Mtasingwa, who was handed his first start for the club but failed to impress. Khanye has questioned the midfielder’s quality, particularly given his previous experience with Tanzanian side Azam FC.
Khanye not happy with Chiefs new signing
The outspoken analyst believes Mtasingwa does not represent a significant upgrade for Chiefs and questioned whether the club could have found a better player locally.
“Isn’t there a kid we can get in Daveyton or Soweto who is better than this guy?” Khanye asked.
“If you can’t attack the space with the ball as an international player, then there’s a problem. If you can’t turn and you’re an international player, then there’s nothing special about this guy. Instead, he plays safe.
“Maboe is going to get tired and injured,” Khanye added.
The former Chiefs winger also compared Mtasingwa to former Amakhosi midfielder Akumu Agay, who struggled during his time at the club. He felt the new signing is not a better option in the midfield for Chiefs.
“For me, he reminds me of Akumu Agay. Thabo Cele is better because he is accurate with his passes, but he just lacks character,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
Chiefs will now turn their attention to the Betway Premiership when they face Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.
It remains to be seen whether new Chiefs signing Langelihle Phili will be handed his first start after coming off the bench against Arrows.
